Theoretical should be a science.

To properly comp your customer, you have to know their abilities. Not all customers are the same.

Players A & B bet big, win or lose big and both get comped well. The problem is that player A is a stiff and plays at a 10% disadvantage while player B is a sharp player that plays at a 0.5% disadvantage and both get comped the same!

I‘ll give you one small, easy example on craps. Player A (the stiff) plays all over the table inside and outside while player B plays only the Don’ts. Both get comped the same! Even worse, player B plays with player C and plays opposite player B nearly eliminating their disadvantage. Both sharp (offsetting) players B & C both get comped at the same rate as player A and craps is not the only common game where this simple example applies. Add a little collusion or social engineering and you’ve handed them a nice gift.
